The neighborhoods east of downtown are home to two large and impressive university campuses: that of the University of Pittsburgh and that of Carnegie-Mellon University. Various other colleges and Medical institutions are also located in the area.
As one would expect, the area has a young and vibrant atmosphere with numerous cafes, restaurants and shops serving the large student population.
